Our aims

The Dot Gay Alliance is a gay-led organization dedicated to promoting the acceptance and implementation of the .GAY top-level domain. It is backed by leading gay rights and philanthropic groups, high-profile individuals, and leading business voices.

Since its inception in 1998, the organization that oversees the Internet (ICANN) has been working to open up the Top-level Domain space. Now, 11 years later, a comprehensive change is planned that will allow a multitude of new extensions, allowing for the creation of .GAY — a TLD dedicated to expanding the civil rights of LGBT people in the U.S. and around the world.

The Dot Gay Alliance intends to apply for the .GAY top-level domain in early 2010 when ICANN begins accepting applications. Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to fight for LBGT rights around the world.

Benefits of .GAY

Endorse .GAY now

  • .GAY is community for gay and lesbians, led by gay and lesbians.
  • At least 51% of the profits of Dot GAY Alliance will go to philanthropic causes that fight for LGBT rights in the US and around the world. This new social entrepreneurial fund raising model will provide significant resources for LGBT causes on a regular annual basis.
  • The .GAY top-level domain will provide concentrated Internet real estate for companies to showcase their gay efforts. In a few years, it will be natural for every company that speaks or sells to the GLBT population to have a .GAY in addition to their .COM or .ORG addresses.
  • The .GAY namespace will open up the possibility of getting a meaningful domain name. This means that the millions of registrants who have been “shut out” of .COM by speculative domain holders who have quite literally bought every .COM name in the dictionary will have a new alternative. Instead of paying thousands of dollars in the secondary market for a reasonable .COM address, users will be able to find the same name in the .GAY namespace at a fraction of the cost.
